prepping chrome

Kinda of a newbie but I was wondering how do you prep a chrome piece, like step rails for a truck? Do you have to remove all the chrome? Thanks

Yeah, lots of info on that if you search. It depends what paint you're using, but you can sand well and hit it w OHW

Thanks guys for the info! Not using OHW (maybe I should) just using a regular white base coat

@raytgrajeda i'm in the process of dipping some chrome step bars. Get you some OHW man that paint will stick to anything and lays down nice. @onehitwonder recommends degreasing the chrome part then sanding with 400grt then degrease again before laying ohw down. I'm waiting on my tank[any day now] but feel free to pm me man I can help. good luck

@raytgrajeda If you sand down to bare steel at any point you will have to prime that spot with a "direct to metal" primer. Some paints dont require it, but being a new dipper, you are going to have plenty of other things to worry about.

How much ohw can u expect to use to cover a golf cart body? Currently a beige color but wanting it to be zombie green with a digital pattern layered over it.
