activation issues

Hello all. I've been having issues dipping this synthetic gun stock. I've dipped it 12 times and can't get it right. I've attached a link to a youtube video demonstrating my technique. Because I keep messing up the dip I cut out a shape of a gun stock out of a board then painted it to practice. I'm not a professional but I've been doing this for about 10 years as a hobby. I'm using an Air Gunza at 8 to 10 psi and liquid concepts activator. I was using super brew activator and was getting the same results but I have had that super brew for about 8 years so I thought I would switch activators to see if it helped and it didn't. I'm attaching the link to YouTube and a pic of the dip after rinsing. https://youtu.be/Af-yhR3ye-Y

Can you do a quick spray pattern on cardboard to make sure your gun isn’t spitting droplets
    Of activator?

Your angle didn’t look bad, but you did start to rotate into the water instead of maintaining your angle and feeding into film. Your right hand got to a certain depth and stopped while your left hand continued, causing the fore end of the stock to flatten out. Still had some angle, but might have caused the spots. Curious if the gun is spitting also.

Or if your pattern is heavy on the outer ends, like hourglass shaped. Your overlap was heavy in the middle strip of the tank. May be over activating there. Your fan was wide enough to just do one pass over the middle.

I just watched again. The upper half of your film is probably over activated. Your first pass liquified the film and was centered on the width of the film. Your second pass was only on the upper half of the film.

Thanks for all the feedback. The reason I can’t maintain the angle is cause my tank is shallow and my right hand was hitting the bottom of the tank. So I keep the steep angle as long as I can then I have to drop the angle to fit the whole part in. But I’ve dipped gun stocks before and not had 12 repeats. Think it might be the paint? It’s liquid concepts and it’s brand new. I’ll do a spray pattern with activator on some cardboard tonight after work and post it. That’s a good idea. And I also agree with you that the 1st pass was fine. Just looked like the top part of the film didn’t get enough activator when I did the first pass but after I watched the video I saw I didn’t need to spray the top part. Thanks again

Here’s a link to how my activator gun is spraying plus a picture of the spray pattern. https://youtube.com/shorts/eZ73icGXm24?feature=share

Spray pattern looks really good! Well done dialing in. I do think you just over activated the middle of the film where you dipped. Try a single pass w pattern centered over the middle of the film. Film should glass out fine.

Makes sense about your hand hitting the bottom!
