What is the best coating and top coat for guns when you want to dip a pattern on it? How is the durability?

“Best” is a broad term. For production we have to measure “best” to include cost effective. But we also use the same coatings for Custom Work. Aqualac Base and NanoChem topcoat. So far we have tested numerous other combinations and always come back to that for multiple reasons including coverage per gallon and curing times. It has been plenty durable on tens of thousands of firearm parts in our shop alone, not to mention all the other OEM production shops that use the same coatings regularly.

But... that being said... Duracoat is technically more durable (hardness and scratch resistance) than Aqualac, and you can dip to that. But it’s expensive. A full OHW system or Low Country system bottom to top may prove to be stronger as well.
