motorcyle helmet

Soo.. it dawned on me this morning I have 4 or 5 motorcycle helmets just sitting around in my closet. Some full face, some half face.

Just begging to be used a practice pieces.

These are all "factory" helmets. Painted, clear coated.

Do I just need to scuff them up, paint over the clear, and dip?

Scuff, paint, dip and clear...then have Randi model them so we can admire...

    The work...admire the work...

Scuff with just like a red scotchbrite or using a small grit sand paper?

Red is fine...sand paper might burn through...those guys are stingy with the clear on manufactured products...

We recommend a light grey Scotch pad - degrease BEFORE scuffing

why degrease before scuffing? (asking to learn)

O, yesterday i got the paint I ordered from ya. I tested it on a tumbler, I'll admit, not having to prime, but just sand, spray a quick coat on there, let it dry, then dip...that was nice. Anything that cuts a step (time) out of the process.

If there is oil on the surface scuffing first will just drive the oils down into the scuffs. And contaminate your scotch brite.

Degrease first so you don't rub any grease into the clear you are scuffing...and yes ask me how I know?...

That's water drops. That was just rinsed off. I'm not going to clear it. I'll paint over it and do another film. It's just and old helmet I had laying around.

yea, I LOVE that film. I'd love to do a motorcycle in it.

Sweet, you nailed it. Can't wait to see the clear on it. A whole bike would be interesting, be riding atop a white stallion of boobs :)
